Salon Cabaret

Photography by Matt Day, and the stars of the stage include Matt Pang, Hobbit and The Gentlemen of the Road..

Our Ethos:

To put on a fun and affordable night of music and cabaret hailing back to the days of travelling Vaudeville performances. We source our performers from Bristol and beyond including students and teachers from local circus school Circomedia and like to give newcomers (who may be finding the Bristol  scene a little cliquey) the opportunity to showcase new and old tricks! We work on a profit share basis with all cabaret performers receiving the same amount per show.

Since starting the night with my album launch when red carpet glamour was the dress code, I thought it’d be fun to continue having a bit of a dress theme for each event. This encourages people to dress up and gives the whole night more of unique feel, the audience are then much more involved beyond being a passive audience they are a very important part of the theming of the night. This has now filtered through to the decor of the boat which our lovely decor lady Sarah takes control of each month using her fantastic creative flair. So far the themes have been..Nautical, Berlin cabaret/Oktoberfest Beerkeller chic, 1950’s Christmas cocktail party.

The John Sebastian Light ship has been such a find! Located in Bristol harbour, it is a little hard to find for the uninitiated , but that’s why it’s a well kept secret! Previously only used as the Cabot Cruising Club for the local boat owners it is a fantastically quirky little venue perfect for cabaret with a social club priced bar,  possibly the cheapest in town!

Heading from the centre of town go to the Louisianna  then turn left over the small bridge on your left you will soon see a red l.ight house sticking up out of a boat in the moorings to your left. This is the boat, parking is right next to it and it’s also by the old General Hospital and road down to the Ostrich Pub.

Followed by a special set from myself and the band with some new numbers slipped into the set to keep you on your dancing toes, we also have DJ Sticky who will keep you bopping till the witching hour and some special Christmas treats early on.

As things are turning Autumnal we’ve decided it’s time for another do..I’d like to invite you to the next ‘Miss Cecily’s Salon’
Theme: As it’s October and therefore Oktoberfest over in Germany we’ve decided on combining this with Berlin Cabaret of the 1920’s and 30’s for the theme: So it’s all things Germanic! the darkness and decadance of the cabarets of the Weimar Republic. Think, ‘Cabaret’ a la Liza Minelli, the glamourous showgirls with cigarette holders, black tie for the gents or Bierkeller chic.. lederhosen, diendels, pig tails and steiners.I have since been told that lederhosen are very much verboten in Berlin society…but I say bring it on!

Headlining will be the fantastic, Moscow Drug Club: “a curious musical place where certain elements of 1930’s Berlin Cabaret, Hot Club de France, New Orleans Funeral Parade & Gypsy Campfire meet”
preceded by a cabaret with a host of acts befitting the theme including London Comedienne show girl Claire Benjamin, circus, magic and finally dancing with our resident DJ of the night.
